Angels - the Last Single?

Finally finished the mix for "Angels and Blue Eyed Cowboys".  It should be up in a few days, however long it takes CD Baby to process it.

"Angels" is one of a collection of songs that Tim wrote back in the late 1980's - early 90's.  He had made demo cassette tapes of the songs, which got put away in a shed and forgotten.  One day he was going through the shed and found the tapes.  He brought them over for a listen one night, and that's basically how the Left on Mainstream project got started.  The final album will include several songs from those demos, plus at least one song that was first recorded in the 1970's.  There's a whole story behind that as well, something for another time.

With "Angels" we're past the half-way point for the complete album.  The painting you see on our website will be the front and back covers.  We don't have the inside art done yet.

Which brings up another topic -- singles.  So far we've been distributing individual songs digitally (iTunes, Pandora, CD Baby, etc.) as we finish them.  These are called 'singles', which may come as a surprise to those of us who remember vinyl singles containing two songs -- these days, a 'single' is truly a single song.  I admit that a major reason for putting out singles is pure ego; we want y'all to hear the songs, and we want to hear you tell us how great they are ;-).  But there can be issues in putting out singles like this.  For one, it costs us a little bit more.  For another, the songs are mixed but have not been "mastered" for the album.  Mastering is a process in record-making that makes subtle adjustments to tone and level to help make all the songs on an album 'gel.'  So the album versions may sound a bit different than the singles.

On the other hand, many people prefer to just pick the songs they especially like, whether it appears on a real album or not.  So releasing songs as they're done makes perfect sense.

So we're debating whether we want to continue to put out individual songs, or just wait until the whole thing is ready.  I don't know what the answer is going to be yet.  Stay tuned.

Hope y'all like the new song.  Keep in touch.
