Our Town

The album is being recorded at something called, "The Sunroom" in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The reality is, it really is a sunroom.  About 20 x 12 feet with an 8-foot ceiling, brick floors, and an east wall of mostly glass.  There are french doors in the northwest corner leading to the house, and french doors on the northeast corner leading to the backyard.  The backyard is kinda funky now, but in its day it had cherry and apple trees, grapevines, grass, and swingsets.  Our kids grew up in that backyard, and the route from the house to the backyard ran directly through that sunroom.

The Sunroom went from being a den to a dining room to a bedroom and, eventually, to a music room.  First as a practice space for our classic rock cover band, and then as a recording space.  Stuff happened, and music had to hibernate.  And for a while, the Sunroom had no real purpose, and it sat patient and empty, waiting.

And eventually, a couple of years ago, the waiting was over.  We could again fill the room with music.  A good friend donated a drum set, a primo guitar amp and other essential goodies.  We built a handful of gobos out of 1x6s and rock wool.  We hung our mandela and vacuumed the rug.  You could say, "we made a place to sweat".

And this is where we've done all our music, some of it pre-hibernation, some of it post.  As a recording space it violates all the rules, but for us it's magical, so wrong on paper, but so right in spirit.  So much life has happened in that room, it's not surprising that some pretty OK music comes out of it, if we do say so ourselves.

Thanks again for listening to our little songs.  Peace.
